Proper cleaning of FR garments is essential to remove potentially hazardous soils and avoid a build-up of materials that could decrease the FR performance of your workwear.
This includes flammable soils and greases as well as other contaminants that will act as accelerants in a fire hazard situation.
Though the garment manufacturer’s care label recommendations and other published instructions should take precedence, the following are all useful general references for proper cleaning of FR and thermal protective clothing.
• ASTM F1449 - 08(2015) Guide for Industrial Laundering of Flame, Thermal, and Arc Resistant Clothing
• ASTM F2757 - 09(2016) Standard Guide for Home Laundering Care and Maintenance of Flame, Thermal and Arc Resistant Clothing
• NFPA 2113 Standard on Selection, Care, Use, and Maintenance of Flame-Resistant Garments for Protection of Industrial Personnel Against Short-Duration Thermal Exposures
